Hi there! I’m Nongyao, but most people know me as Chef Yao. I’m a proud Thai chef who moved to Montreal since 2009, bringing with me the rich flavors and traditions of my culture. B-Spicy is more than just a business — it’s a labor of love and a heartfelt connection to my roots.

I grew up in a humble rice-farming village in Krasang, Buriram, where chili paste was a staple in every home. My mom always kept a jar ready, and making it was more than just cooking — it was a cherished family ritual.

A Mother's Love

I remember helping my mom make big batches of chili paste — it was time-consuming, but always worth it. We’d toast chilies, garlic, and shallots, then blend in ingredients like dried fish, tamarind paste, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves to build deep, complex layers of flavor. But those moments were about more than just cooking — they were about family, love, and survival. Every jar we made was infused with her care, her wisdom, and the belief that food connects us to something greater than ourselves.
